Α. School Committees

In our City there are 39 School Committees (legal entities) of Primary and High School Education, which have been established with relevant decisions of the Prefect (previously) and then of the Peripheral Director, according to paragraph 8 of the article 5 of the 1894/90 Law. Every school committee covers one or more public schools either of the Primary or of the High School Education according to the local needs.

Aims of the legal entities are:

• The management of appropriations allocated to cover the operation expenses (heating, lighting, water supply, telephone, drainage, office supplies etc
• The implementation of works for the repair and upkeep of schools and all their equipment.
• The taking of all measures necessary for supporting the administrative operation of schools.

Β. Municipal Committee for the Education
Competences

1. The Municipal Committee for the Education introduces to the Mayor and the City or Village Council issues related to the better organization and operation of the primary or high schools, the distribution of appropriations for the operational expenses of schools, the foundation, abolition and merger of schools, and supervises the construction, repair and upkeep of schools, as well as the work of school committees.
2. When there are school buildings that are not used to house public schools, it proposes to the Prefect their use for other needs of common utility.
3. It gives an expert opinion to the Prefect for the common share of public schools at the same building, the common use of the rest of the premises and the operation hours of every school at the same building.
