Mayor of Rhodes
Mayor: Hatziefthimiou Hatzis

Hatzis N. Hatziefthimiou was born on November 27, 1944, son of Nikolaos Hatziefthimiou and Stamatia Stavraki, with roots from the island of Halki.

He graduated from Venetokleion High School and studied Informatics (Electronics Engineer).

During his studies, he wrote a book on electrology, which granted him with a scholarship at the University of Waterloo, Canada by the Air Force, which he refused to accept.

He attended numerous lectures and seminars on informatics and its applications.

During his military term, he served as Officer of the reserve and Captain of the School of Mechanics at Loutraki.

For more than 25 years he ran an insurance agency as a broker, collaborating with the major Greek and Foreign Insurance Companies, while, with his wife, they ran the hotel «Lito», in Ixia, Ialysos, which is owned by his wife.

For many years, he was interested in local politics and held a variety of positions which kept him active in politics.

He was member of the Commercial Association of Rhodes, the National Association of Insurance Agencies of Greece, honorary member of the Cultural Association of Mesochori of Karpathos, member of the Halki Association of Rhodes, and more.

His first involvement in the local government was during the first Second Degree (Prefectural) Elections, which took place, in 1994, when he was elected Council Member.

During the elections of 1998 he was re-elected as a Council Member and served for four years as Vice-Prefect of Dodecanese.

During his term as a Vice-Prefect and with the aim of contributing to citizen-service efficiency, he wrote the book «Charter of Citizen's Rights», which was distributed throughout the Dodecanese. He also presented a study on electronic citizen - services.

In 2002, he constituted the municipal political party «Rhodes First» (Prota i Rodos), and ran for Mayor. He succeeded in the elections of 2006.

He now also serves as president of the Organization for the Promotion of Rhodian Tourism, the Rhodian Club, the Scholarship Foundation of Rhodes, the Rhodes' Organization of Island Games and the Port Foundation of South Dodecanese.

In 1991 he married Litsa Avgerinou. In 1994 they had a son named Nicholas.
