Basketball is the second most popular sport in Rhodes. From the early 20th century, there were clubs who were practising the sport on the island.
Today, there are over 15 local basketball clubs, all members of the active local Basketball Association, as well as the local Referees Association.
The Kolossos Basketball Club, which was founded in 1963, is qualified to participate in the Mens National A1 Division of the Greek Basketball Championship.
The Kolossos Club is based at the Venetoklio Indoor Hall, in the city of Rhodes and is the most organized basketball facility on the island. The Venetoklio Indoor Hall has:
- Wooden floor, 32m x 20m
- Training equipment.
- Showers and WC.
- A platform of 1300 seats.
- A platform for journalists and a kiosk
In the city of Rhodes, there is also the Diagoras, an indoor court with a wooden floor.
Other basketball courts on the island which serve as a base for local teams are:
- The Indoor Hall at the Municipality of Ialyssos.
- The Indoor Hall of Kremasti at the Petaloudon.
Both of them have wooden floors, equipment and training rooms.
They are within easy reach of hotels of various categories, restaurants, sightseeing, beaches and archaeological sites.
