Rowing & Kayak

Since the early 30’s, Rowing has maintained a significant presence on the island of Rhodes, with several distinctions and achievements both at national and international level. In the 1956, Melbourne Olympic Games, the participation of the athlete Nick Chatzigiakoumi, for the Nautical Club of Rhodes, was the highest achievement.
  • Suitable locations for training and races are the sea area around the Nautical Club of Rhodes and the artificial lake of Apolakia, in the Municipality of South Rhodes.
  • The various vessels that belong to the Nautical Club of Rhodes are available for use in both areas.
Kayak (level) is a relatively new sport in Rhodes beginning in 1977, but despite its short history Rhodian athletes have achieved distinctions at national level.

Suitable locations for Kayak are the sea at the Nautical Club of Rhodes and the artificial lake at Apolakia, in the Municipality of South Rhodes. Soon another artificial lake suitable for Kayak will be available at Gadouras, which is now under construction, in the Municipality of Lindos.

The main facilities the Nautical Club of Rhodes has:
  • Storage area and personnel for boat repairs.
  • Ramp and platform for entering the water.
  • Changing rooms with showers 7+7, outdoor shower, WC, gym.
  • Coffee shop serving refreshments and light meals.
  • Space for meetings with telephone and internet.
The venue also has a 25 m, 8 lane open pool, specifications FINA.

The Nautical Club of Rhodes is centrally located close to the City Hall, the Aquarium, and the Marina. Nearby is a well organized and cosmopolitan beach which has a three level, 10m flat diving platform.

Within the city of Rhodes, the commercial and historic centre incorporates the Medieval Town, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO’s world heritage list and can be found a short distance from the premises. Restaurants and hotels of various categories, are at hand.

The artificial lake at Apolakia, is 1750m long and 200m wide and is located 3km north-east from the village of Apolakia where accommodation and restaurants can be found. The Genadi Village. at the southside of the island, is 12km from the venue and the area has beautiful beaches, hotels of various categories, restaurants and attractions.
